Privacy Policy for HoppedUp

Effective Date: August 2, 2026

This privacy policy applies specifically to the HoppedUp app developed by Rough Idea Software.

HoppedUp ("we," "our," or "the app") is anonymous by design. There are no accounts, no profiles, no usernames, and no social features. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have.

1. Summary

We do not operate any servers of our own, we do not collect analytics, and we never sell or share your data with third parties. The app handles two kinds of information: your personal check-in history, including anything you write in a note, which stays on your device and is never uploaded; and anonymous community ratings (a beer's name and your rating value), which are shared to a public database operated by Apple so that everyone can see how a brewery's beers are rated. Neither is ever linked to your name or identity.

2. Your Check-In History (Stays on Your Device)

The breweries you visit, the beers you rate, your ratings, and your notes are stored in a database on your device. This history is not synced to us and we cannot see it. Deleting the app deletes it.

3. Anonymous Community Ratings

When you rate a beer at a brewery that has a public map listing, the app shares the brewery's map identifier, the beer's name, and your rating value to a shared public database (Apple CloudKit). This is what powers the community board: average ratings and rating counts for each beer.

These contributions are anonymous. No name, email, account, or profile exists in HoppedUp, and nothing shown in the app ever identifies who rated what. An anonymised Apple identifier is used internally for one purpose only: making sure each person counts once per beer (your newest rating replaces your older one). It is never displayed and never combined with anything identifying.

Nothing you write is ever shared. A note you add to a rating is stored only on your device, is visible only to you, and is never uploaded — no other user can see it, and neither can we.

4. Location

The app asks for while-using location access for one purpose: showing breweries near you. Searches are performed through Apple Maps under Apple's privacy policy. Your location is never stored by the app, never attached to any rating, and never transmitted to us. You can decline or revoke location access at any time in Settings; searching for breweries by name works without it.

5. Reporting and Moderation

No user-written content is shared between users in HoppedUp, so there is nothing for other users to see, report, or moderate. If you have a concern about the app, contact us using the details below.

6. Usage Data and Analytics

The app does not track or transmit any usage data, analytics, or personal activity, and it contains no advertising or tracking technology.

7. Third-Party Services

HoppedUp does not use any third-party services or analytics tools. The only external services involved are Apple's: CloudKit (the shared public database for community ratings) and Apple Maps (brewery search), each operating under Apple's terms and privacy policy. Community features require being signed in to iCloud.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your local history is removed when you delete the app. Community contributions are anonymous and each new rating you make for a beer replaces your previous one. If you would like your community contributions removed entirely, contact us with the brewery and beers concerned and we will remove them from the shared database.

9. Age

HoppedUp is an app about beer. It is intended for users of legal drinking age in their country and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected here, and the effective date above will be updated.
